Steve was a great leader and mentor to me. He was instrumental and provided guidance in my career. His memory will always remain with me as a positive influence and charismatic leader.

I have only been a part of the QB family for a little over 3 months now, but Steven was such a great light that shines bright in every room. He would always pass by my desk with a smile and a good morning. His great positive energy was felt even passing by his office door. He is resting peacefully and his family should know that we are all here to keep his legacy alive. Thank you Steven! I send my condolences to the family and all those who have encountered this wonderful man. You are definitely missed :(

Although I have only been with Quontic for 4 months, Steve has touched my heart in so many ways. The love he showed for all of his employees were like no other. He Always had a smile on his face! Sherri, Jack, Luke, David, Steve's mom and dad, and all the family and loved ones. I know that there is nothing I can say that help at this moment. I was very touched by all your words. I loved the memorial for Steven. It was great to learn a bit more about him and the lives he touched. Listen to all of you during the memorial  taught me a  few life lesson today about family and friends. I had the pleasure of working for Steve’s Bank back in 2012. He  was responsible for sending me to compliance School and giving me a promotion. Steve was a great professional and personal example for me of a great business men and of a fair and honest person. He always kept his coolness during emotionally intense discussions, respected all points of view, and always brought people together. But my contact with Steve predates the day I was hired to work for his bank back in 2012. My first contact with Steve happened around 2003 when I applied for a Mortgage with his Mortgage company. During closing the representatives from his company arrived with the wrong check amounts and my closing was delayed. I was very upset and wrote a nasty letter to the company CEO, Steven Schnall, asking to be reimbursed for my extra costs. Steve approached me in a very professional way, apologized for what had happened, and made sure his company sent me a reimbursement. Needless to say I admired his professionalism, humbleness, and fairness. When I met Steve at Quontic Bank during my interviews 10 years later, I told him this story and he smiled. When I left Steve’s bank for another opportunity, I remained in contact with Steve. We occasionally chatted on Facebook and it was always great to hear about his new ideas. He was such a visionary and there was still so much for him to invent. It is just amazing to see how someone from humble beginnings accomplish so much. I will miss him and while I was heartbroken about his passing, during the memorial today I realized he is still present in our hearts. 

While it’s been only a few months of meeting Steve, he was impactful right away.  His ability to connect on a personal level was truly a gift he gave so freely.  Working for him at Quontic Bank, has been a joy.  While I never met him in person all the opportunities created to have FaceTime via coffee with CEO or game nights, even the all company meeting I felt a part of from day one.  He will truly be missed.

NYMC was a special time for me and Steve is a big part of those memories.  I actually got engaged in that office at 60 E 42nd St. My condolences to Sherri and the family and to the larger Steven Schnall family. 

Steve was one of a kind…. The wisdom of the ages, the youth of a 20 year old.  Visionary yet always paid attention to the little details.  
From the day we agreed to purchase together Golden First bank… you always kept the big picture in mind; even as we personally went through files after files of loans… and documents. Amazing how you transformed Quontic!

Steve was an inspiration to me and so many others.  He possessed a rare combination of a contrarian outlook and charming personality that enabled him to change people's outlook by challenging their beliefs without making them feel personally challenged.  His excitement about the world was infectious.  He knew how to make me laugh.  I miss him.

My friend Steve was much like a tree.  His roots were a foundation of morals and empathy that provided him support and emphasized his nature and relationships to others.  Steve was upright, strong and sturdy, even in the occasional tempest.  He provided oxygen and inspiration for those around him to breathe and grow.  Steve was never one to stop growing – always creative, questioning the status quo and willing to tackle new challenges even if the forest was a crowded conventional wilderness.  He provided shade and comfort to his friends and family – listening, advising and providing whatever assistance he could.  Many people nested and were welcome among his many branches – a symbiotic and synergetic energy that accomplished so much for those who were lucky enough to know him.  I miss you tremendously.

Steven was a great man and a great boss to work for.  At NYMC, he provided me an opportunity at a time when there were few opportunities available.  His leadership also made NYMC my favorite working experience in my career, as my colleagues were not simply co-workers, it felt like a family  For the opportunity and the experiences, I will always be grateful to Steven.  We will be keeping Sherri and the boys in our thoughts and prayers.  Godspeed Steven and thank you for everything!

My earliest memories of Steve were at Safety Harbor Middle School. He was whip smart and one of the funniest people I've ever met. We both sat in the back of Mrs. McKinney's 7th grade English class due to an alphabetical seating chart or maybe serendipity. We'd laugh while we were supposed to be diagramming sentences because Mrs. McKinney's false eyelashes were always falling off. I have to admit, I had a crush on him even though I was a good five inches taller at the time. Fast forward to junior year of high school, and I was a tall nerdy girl. Steve was cool, funny and popular. I was changing classes in a hallway at Countryside High School with shoulder to shoulder students. I could barely see over all the books in my arms when someone bumped into me and knocked them all over the floor. Steve stopped and helped me pick them all up and was probably late to his next class. He was a truly nice guy. Condolences to his family. RIP Steve.

I was head of business development at the Company that bought New York Mortgage Trust.  Steve and I did the deal together.  Steve stayed on and we worked together for a while.  

When the financial crisis started we were looking at buying this failing mortgage company.  The owner of this company was trying to get a auction going with another buyer.  The only issue was that Steve got a chance to talk with all the sales leaders of the mortgage company for sale.  It took about half an hour and these sales leaders, which had about 1,000 people, walked into the room and told their CEO - “we all are going to work for Steve so you can sell this company to whomever you want but if we don’t work for Steve then we are quitting.”  Quite something for a 1/2 hour discussion - it wasn’t about money - the other buyer offered more - they just wanted to work for Steve.

Steve was a special man - a man of deep passion, and love of life.  

As a peer CEO at another bank Steve and I would often  commiserate about different issues and I always valued his advice.  He was always willing to take a call and help a friend.

I've lost a friend, and it hurts. Steve was one of the most likable people I know.  I first met Steve in 2005 when I proposed designing a house at 2 N. Moore. I was immediately taken by Steve's openness, enthusiasm, and positive energy.  I'm going to really miss him. 

You know as we age and the pictures fade the only thing that is left are memories, and what great memories we've had going to countryside high School in Clearwater Florida Steve had achieved greatness at his level but his heart never knew a level he was so giving at many facets of his life and hopefully we can find peace knowing he's in the Lord's Kingdom and being a motorcycle enthusiast myself living life to the fullest knees in the breeze if you will our name everyone is in the book somewhere.

Steven gave me my first shot in management at New York Mortgage Company.  I've always appreciate this.   My condolences go out to his wife and children. 

Steve was iconic in so many ways.  He will be missed.

Steve was kind when he didn't have to be.  At other places that I've worked even if the leader was as charismatic as Steve, I eventually always saw another side.  I thought Steve was great, but I was skeptical. I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop and it just didn't. When I filmed at his home in New York I told Casey I couldn't believe how relaxed he was. She said that he had been through hard things and that he didn't sweat the small things. I was also struck by how transparent and reasonable Steve was. He treated people with dignity and handled tough situations with transparency.

Steve made an immediate impact on me the first time I traveled to New York to meet everyone.  Each time I have been in NY Steve
made sure to stop by and say hello and see how things were going.    His vision and love for Quontic was apparent and he will be greatly missed. 



This is heartbreaking to me. Truly gutting.  I am so sorry for such a tremendous loss to Sherri and the kids and all of Steven’s family, friends, colleagues and the world really.  For the 9 years I worked at NYMC, I was not aware that that time period in my professional life would set the standard and bar so high - that no other office culture would  every come close to the joy I felt (and most of us felt) in going to work.  I think many of us still feel that way.  We were a family and a team.  It was fun, even when stressful. Those were good times and a lot about those times surely need to be attributed to Steven, who was a masterful, kind, innovative and fearless leader.  We also shared not such a good time, and I remember his tears as we crowded into his office in the early morning hours of September 11, 2001.  He was heartbroken as we all were. In May of 2019, we all went to a NYMC reunion and that was the last time I saw Steven.  We all had such a great time laughing and reminiscing and he was the same as he always was - even after all the years having not seen him - snarky and engaging! Recently, I reached out to him for help with a legal crypto matter and he responded immediately!  He told me to call him anytime. While I ended up not needing the help, it registered with me that after all these years, having not really been in touch, that he would be so responsive and willing to assist me. Genuine. There is an expression that “you may break you may shatter the vase if you will, but the scent of the rose shall linger still”.  You must have no doubt, that the legacy of Steven Schnall lives on in all of us.  May his memory be a blessing . Please provide information for charitable donations to be made in his honor. My first memory of Steven was when I started working at NYMC back in December 2001. It was time of when companies had their Christmas parties. I remember on the day of the party, my department was extremely busy with work and said we wouldn't be able to go with all the work. Steven was walking around asking if people needed help. I was working with another girl who was also new and Steven came up to her and asked if she needed help. She looked at him and said " No but who are you"? He smiled extended his hand and took hers and said" Hi. My name is Steven Schnall and I am the owner of the company".  She got red and we all laughed. This shows how approachable and kind Steven was. He was one of the best owners of any job that I had after I left NYMC in 2007. He will greatly be missed. Rest in Peace Steven Schnall 🙏 💔!



I wanted to give my condolences for the loss of Steven Schnall. I didnt get the pleasure of actually meeting him in person but on the wine tasting and the coffee with the CEO he seemed like a real down to earth kind of guy. Very friendly and chatty. I am still in shock and my heart goes out to the family in this time. May we at Quontic continue to make him proud !!
