Sandra K. Wasserman “Sandy” on November 20, 2023. Beloved wife of the late Bert W. Wasserman, devoted daughter of the late Debra and the late Adrian Kahn. Loving mother of Mindee, the late Craig and Debra, and the mother-in-law of Marla Wasserman and Jason Glasser. Cherished grandmother of Alison and Jared Wasserman and Bret and Blake Glasser, dear sister of Randee (Lester)(late Paul) and sister-in-law of Adele (William) and Roseanne (late Al).
A community leader and philanthropist. A heart of gold, an intellect to match and universally loved. A woman who inspired kindness, compassion and strength.
Sandy received a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Baruch College. Since 2005, Sandy was a board member until her passing of the Baruch College Fund and the board of Hillel at Baruch. She also served on the Board’s Major Development Committee. In addition, Baruch’s Department of Economics & Finance is named in memory of Sandy’s late husband Bert W. Wasserman, while the Baruch College Trading Floor is named after them both. In 2014, The Sandra Kahn Wasserman Jewish Studies Center was established in the Weissman School of Arts & Sciences at Baruch College.
Sandy also served on the Board of Directors of the Gurwin Jewish Healthcare Foundation. In 2014, she was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award as she and Bert were among Gurwin Geriatric’s Founding Families. She also served as a co-chair of the Wasserman Center for Family Life at the Marlene Meyerson JCC Manhattan.
Other community activities included her work as a board member of the Hecksher Museum, Project Kesher and the UJA Women's Division. At the Jewish Museum, she served on the Fine Arts Acquisition Committee and was a member of the Museum Council. Sandy always supported the Actors Fund and was a patron of the Metropolitan Opera and the American Ballet Theater.
