Our condolences and love to all of the Mtangi famiy. The loss of Ross is a devastation to all who knew him. He was a remarkable person of great talent and character.


As we mark the first anniversary of your passing today, I write this tribute as a way to honor you and the meaningful-ness of your life. I am reflecting on the many immeasurably difficult days this past year has held in trying to come to terms with both your death and my grief.


Knowing you was a moving and illuminating experience and I will remain grateful for how richly we grew to appreciate and understand each other.  There was more to say of course, but we mutually said a lot.  I probably don't have to tell you that I will remember everything we shared in great and nuanced detail, and I can almost hear you laughing your very hearty laugh right now about what an understatement from me that is!!


You were an immensely special and striving person, Ross Mtangi. Your death leaves an unfillable hole on many levels and I feel your absence palpably.  I will always hold you tucked tight in my heart and I will miss you forever.




To Ross’ Family…

Ross and I worked together for  a few short years at JP Morgan about 15 years ago.  I just now became aware of his passing, but please do not let that diminish my message.  From the day I first met Ross, I could tell he was special, but as the weeks went by I realized I was in the presence of greatness.  I’d met over a hundred truly smart, top notch men and women by that point, but it was clear that Ross was the best of the best.  Over the next few years, my assumptions were soundly confirmed.   I don’t think I have ever met, nor will I ever meet, a more impressive person than Ross.  I was briefly his mentor, but he was very much my teacher as well.  I am so sorry for your loss, and if it’s any consolation, I am devastated today, partially because I just heard that he’s gone, but also because I did not get a chance to share with everyone how special I always thought he was.  My deepest and most sincere condolences.  I will never forget him.  

I’m so sorry to hear about Ross’ passing. I was his AP Government teacher at Scituate HS. He was such a clever, fun, talent who is never to be forgotten. RIP 

Ross was a great guy and solid all around. He was someone you could look up to since he had accomplished so much in his life at a young age. We spoke often over the last year as I covered protests in NYC and he traveled to Minneapolis to see everything in real life. A special person who will be dearly missed, but forever grateful to have shared conversations with him.

Ross had a rare mix of genius and empathy. I am heartbroken to hear of his passing. I last ran into Ross in Chelsea in 2020, just as the pandemic was hitting. He stopped and spoke with me on the corner for so long to ask me about how I was doing. I talked his ear off because I was not doing all that great. He listened and he cared. 

My deepest condolences to his family. Lauren and Shamiso, I am keeping you in my prayers. May his memory be a blessing.

Wherever a beautiful soul has been, there is a trail of beautiful memories which become a treasure. Give peace to the soul. With my deepest sympathy - 'bro'!

As a dear friend of my older cousins, Ross was someone that I got to know and looked up to from an early age. He was kind, fun, and extremely cool. One thing that I really appreciated about Ross was that even as he achieved great heights in his career, he remained easy to talk to and interested in how things were going in my life; when we'd see one another at family gatherings, he'd always take time to check in and provide encouragement. I have always admired Ross and I'm very sad that he has passed.  I want to extend my deepest condolences to all his friends and family. 

Ross you are now in perfect rest, in a peaceful sleep.

As a Christian, I have the hope of everlasting life and the certainty that no soul is lost to Jehovah, our heavenly father. God has the power to undo death by means of the resurrection, and he promises to do just that in his new world. Ross you are now in perfect rest, in a peaceful sleep. As the holy bible says: "But about the resurrection of the dead - have you not read what God said to you, "I am the God of Abraham, God of Isaac and the God of Jacob"? He is not the God of the dead but of the living. Matthew 22:31-32. 

I have known you as a man of principle, absolutely straightforward, constantly in search of beneficial solutions with a good sense of consideration and anticipation, and as a man of rather few words who took an active interest in the people he was responsible for. Your deep voice laughter said more than words and I will miss it dearly until we meet again.

Rest peacefully, Ross, until you hear Jehovah's call.


The sharp knife of a short life. I am speechless and heart broken. My thoughts and prayers  during this time of sorrow go to Ross' family, whom I know he loved immensely, his close circle of friends that he kept dear to his heart, his loving partner and his baby, and all those who loved him. He was shining star that impacted so many of us, and he will never be forgotten.  RIP Ross, what an honour it was to have known you.

Sending peace and comfort to everyone who loved Ross, especially his family, and close circle of fellas from Harvard. It's hard to believe he is gone. Ross always had that cool confidence and style that made you notice him and want to talk to him. My high school friends and I spent one summer in Providence in between sophomore and junior years. He hung out with us and showed us some cool spots around RI. I know I have some photos of him at Newton Rock in Narraganset and will look for them and send along. Here's a happy memory from a night out at school. We piled 11 of us into my Jeep to get home. I don't remember where we were coming from but I remember laughing so hard. Grateful to have some happy memories with Ross. Sending my sincere heartfelt condolences for this epic loss.
