I want to express my deepest sympathy to Paul's family.

I was an NYPD Sg.  and co worker of Paul's in the 1970s, with Brooklyn roots.. Paul was a Computer Systems Manager and he was instrumental in writing the Federal grant request, that enabled the NYPD to start a mobile laptop  trial in police vehicles. Eventually the success of this trial led to equipping all Police vehicles with a laptop. This tech, for sure, added to the safety and security of every NYPD officer using an official police vehicle. Eventually most US Police Departments used similar technology.
We worked closely with the vendor, who I think was called Kustom Electronics.. There were many issues that occurred and Paul was smart, patient and respectful to co workers and suppliers in resolving problems under pressure. He was fun to be around. We were the first department to share the voice based transmission with integrated data transmissions.  
I did not know that he wanted to be an Officer, as indicated by another NYPD Officer's condolence from the 44 Pct.  I did know that  he aspired to be an actor and following his career was fun, since I knew him back when!
Our division was known as EDPD for Electronic Data Processing Division and later MISD for Mgt Information Systems Division.

Whenever I drive by Ago, I always look and remember what great times we had together. I know you're resting peacefully, my friend. All my Love

I had known Paul Herman going back 20 years and even sold him his Jeep.  He was truly a gem of a human being.  

In addition to being a well-regarded actor, he was also a wonderful restauranteur.   AGO  on Melrose was my favorite 'round the corner haunt and he always greeted me as if I was some kind of A-List personality (which I'm definitely not).  Paul always treated me and my guest to complimentary wines or deserts and made sure we sat at the best table. It was almost embarrassing to be treated so special, but I understand that he treated everyone as special.  This was his gift... what a hellava guy!  

I will miss him.

I’m a fan of his incredible work, he was a truly gifted actor and seemingly a great human being. This one shocked me, I will forever remember him through his movies and tv shows. RIP Paul, make Jesus laugh💙🙏🏼

Paul had that unique ability to make you good feel about yourself.
It was a gift to have known him.  May he Rest in Peace.

Paulie  was my unofficial uncle and always a loyal and supportive friend to me . We had the best times , some of my favorite being horseback riding  and  bike riding  both in Central Park and In LA . Paul had the energy of  a teenager and was someone who really loved life . He had the best sense of humor and was one of the kindest , most authentic human beings I’ve ever known . His presence will remain in my heart and memories ♥️🕊

Very sorry to learn of Paul's passing. My condolences to his brother Charlie and the Herman family.  I've known him since Cafe Central days in NYC and Columbus in NYC. Always excited to see him on film as he was  a great actor w an incredible passion for his work and a true one of a kind friend who truly cared about you.  Certainly the end of an era for anybody who knew and loved him. RIP Paulie Herman!

I met Paulie when I was working at Ago in LA. We spent many nights talking about acting, the industry, and life. I went on to work with many of his friends including John Heard and Bob DeNiro. But my biggest regret is that I never got to share the screen with him. Here’s to the big movie in the sky kid. You became family. Love you. Rest In Power.

Rest In Eternal Peace Paulie. We had some good times over the years. And the road trips with Charlie always helped me get rid of the street  stress.  Travel well and Say hi to Harry Dean for me.

Paulie was a wonderful man and accomplished actor. But more than that I will remember the 2,000 nights I must have spent with him at Ago over the years. How many great stories he told while eating his chopped salad. Los Angeles isn’t the same without him.

“I probably know paul Herman longer then anyone “I was a cop stationed in the 44 pct I believe it was around 1973 paul was a civilian nypd administrative aid .He worked the switch-board and did all kinds of clerical work ,we had long talks about him becoming a cop  then I ran into him many years later hanging out with so many a list celebs.  I still believe even though paul became some what of a icon hanging out with the top talent in the business  ,deep down he wanted to be a nypd  cop

Paulie was a welcoming soul. I can't say I knew him well, but I felt he knew me. I felt genuinely welcomed when we ran into each other, whether in NY or LA.  Many times, wandering about NY, or arriving in LA feeling like an alien, I walked into the restaurant where Paulie might be found and his handshake, pat and welcoming smile made me feel I was okay, at least with him. As an actor,  whatever his character's plight, Paulie expressed something truthful, hurt and hopeful.
