Nunzio Ingrassia, 98 of Manhattan entered eternal rest on Sunday, March 10, 2019 and was born to the late Vincenzo (Vincent) and Victoria Ingrassia. His family immigrated from Regalbuto, Sicily to Buenos Aires, Argentina escaping the fascist government emerging during that era. Nunzio was as an apprentice in the printing trade at a young age and eventually established his own printing business in Capital Federal, Buenos Aires. While in Buenos Aires, he met Benedicta Rios, his future bride.
In 1957, Nunzio bravely embarked on his journey to America. He settled on the Upper West Side of Manhattan and while working various odd jobs and in printing shops, he learned the language of his new home. During their time apart, he and Benedicta corresponded by letter for over two years and in 1960, he was able to sponsor Benedicta for her immigration to the US.
They married and raised their family on the Upper West Side. He became a sole proprietor of his own printing business, Columbus Printery located at 510 Amsterdam Avenue. He and his family were active parishioners of Church of the Blessed Sacrament.
He is predeceased by his parents, his devoted wife, Benedicta (née Rios) of 33 years and 7 siblings, Rosa, Gaetana, Laura, Anna, Salvatore, Vincent, and Roberto.
He is survived by his loving sons, Albert (Lisa) of New York City and Robert (Jane) of Endicott, New York and four cherished grandchildren, Vincent, Arielle, Zachary and Matthew. Nunzio enjoyed spending time with his family and he was a passionate reader.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 am on Friday, March 15 at Church of the Blessed Sacrament 152 West 71st Street, Manhattan. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, N.Y. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to innercityscholarshipfund.org.
