Norman was born on July 7th, 1929 to Rose Scharfman and Jack Goldman in Brooklyn, NY. He was the second child in a loving family adored by his parents and three sisters Doris, Myra, and Eleanor. He attended Yeshiva of Bensonhurst through the 8th grade. Norman graduated from City College, and went on to do graduate work (MBA) before entering the army during the Korean War and was sent to Germany as part of our occupying force. Norman’s intelligence and expertise ultimately earned him a position as head of the Quartermasters in Frankfurt, Germany.
In the years after discharge, Norman became an immediate success in the intimate apparel retail and wholesale business on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. With his storefront on Orchard Street, Norman was one of the pioneers in establishing what became known as the Discount District in lower Manhattan. From there, with partner Irwin Wrubel, he went on to grow his business to a nationwide level with locations across the US. Norman was highly regarded and respected for his honesty and decency, both professionally and personally. Beyond all of his business success, Norman's legacy will live on through his family and all the lives he touched.
Norman and Gail Wrubel married in 1966 and were blessed with two children, Peter and Laura. Norman derived great pleasure from his family and friends. He was a beloved trusted advisor and mentor to many and showed kindness and generosity to everyone he met. And let us not forget his wit and unique sense of humor.
Norman was an outstanding natural athlete. He especially enjoyed tennis, golf and fishing.
Norman is survived by his loving wife Gail, his son Peter Goldman, daughter-in-law Aneta Goldman, daughter Laura Gaines, son-in-law Russell Gaines, grandchildren, Jacob Goldman, Lillian Gaines, Ella Goldman and Henry Gaines.
