Mira’s career began in education as a high school Spanish teacher in New York City and Long Island. In 1984, she broke all barriers and pursued her lifelong dream of aviation by obtaining her private pilot’s license and joining the Ninety-Nines, an international organization of licensed women pilots founded by Amelia Earhart. She flew for a local commuter airline and then worked for the Federal Aviation Administration as an Aviation Safety Inspector and Manager of the field office in Brussels, Belgium before retirement in 2005. She was a kind, generous mother, a friend to many and will be missed very much.
