07/18/1945 – 12/29/2024
Michael Barry Diamond passed away peacefully at The Riverside Rehab, on the Upper West Side, on December 29th. He was 79 years old.
Born on July 18th, 1945, in Brooklyn, Michael was the beloved son of Herbert and Tania. He grew up in the Bensonhurst and Midwood neighborhoods, and attended Midwood High School, and then the University of New Hampshire, where he graduated with dual majors in political science, and theater arts.
Michael was an actor, director, and producer on-and-off-Broadway, and in London, Chicago, and Washington, DC. In his later life, he was a writer: screenplays, theater, and young adult novels.
Beyond his professional life, Michael was known for his staunch political opinions, which he shared in the New York Times web comments section, his dedication to the macrobiotic diet, and his love for basketball, in large part because of his son, Benjamin. He cherished watching his son play, whether in person all over New York City, or via live-streams when his son played in college. He would tell anyone who would listen about Benjamin's basketball prowess.
Michael is survived by his son, Benjamin, his older brother Stuart, his nephews, Noah and Zachary, and his ex-wife, Claudia Bloom. He is preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Tania, and his dog, Dustin.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Doctors Without Borders in his name.
Michael will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
