Mary Cecile Noonan of Manhattan died peacefully in her home on March 26, 2020. She was born on May 18, 1942 in Far Rockaway, N.Y. when the rhododendrons were in bloom. Mary is pre-deceased by her father, Harry A. Noonan in 1975, and mother, Cecile L. Brackley Noonan, in 1995. She was also pre-deceased by three brothers, Harry, Jr., Robert and William.
Mary graduated from Rosemont College with a BA degree in History. After graduation, she had a long and successful career in New York City working for a number of firms, most notably Coopers & Lybrand, later PricewaterhouseCoopers, where among her positions was Executive Assistant to the Board of Directors. She retired at age 65 from full time employment though stayed busy working part time for the law office of Alan Scott, during which time she became a close friend of the Scott Family.
Mary loved music and sang for many years with the Cecelia Chorus in New York City. It was truly a delight and pleasure for her to participate in their many and varied performances. She was a prolific reader who enjoyed being a member of a number of book groups. Perhaps her greatest joy was spending time with family and friends
She is survived by her sister, Kathleen Noonan Lang of Block Island, RI and her brother, John D. Noonan of Ridgefield, CT. Mary is also survived by her nephews and nieces, Gillian Mary Lang of Providence, RI, John (Chip) Noonan of Richmond, VT, Michael Noonan and Joyce Andersen of Wilton, CT, Elizabeth Snow of North Yarmouth, ME, and Paul Noonan of Ridgefield, CT. She is also survived by many grand nieces and nephews. Mary was a vital part of family celebrations and holiday gatherings and will be sorely missed.
Memorial services will be celebrated later this year in Manhattan. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mary’s memory to The Cecilia Chorus of New York, P.O. Box 421, FDR Station, New York, New York 10150.
