Marvin Kaplan was a wonderful man with a big mind and an even bigger heart.
He was devoted to his children. His most important mission in life was to be their provider, mentor, coach, tutor, and Number One Fan. One of his favorite quotes was: “Parents give their children two gifts: Roots and Wings.” He was equally devoted to his wife, and is remembered for saying, “You don’t marry someone you can live with; You marry someone you can’t live without.”
His professional life was dedicated to the care of his patients. He guided many through difficult years of their lives with compassion and wisdom.
A lifelong learner, his passions extended to scientific advances, playing chess, studying music, pursuing sports, and growing orchids. . . . A strong but sensitive soul, he was deeply touched by music, and always cried when he heard songs he loved - “Some Enchanted Evening,” “Sunrise, Sunset,” and Jacqueline du Pre’s “Kol Nidrei.”
He is survived by his wife, Dr. Alice Jo Siegel; his children LIla Rose Kaplan Byrnes and Jenny April Kaplan Sharon; his granddaughter, Hailey Diana Kaplan Byrnes; his sons-in-law Jarrett Byrnes and Scott Sharon; his sister, Barbara Kaplan and his brother-in-law, Gerson Schreiber.
Marvin Kaplan will be deeply missed by the many people whose lives he touched and enriched.
