In Summer 1963 Lucy's son Peter, my brother Robert and I were in England when Lucy was working on getting permission for various video projects: Buckingham Palace, Versailles, the Louvre... She spent hours every day on the phone. Versailles and the Louvre got made, I think Buckingham Palace never did. David Susskind, whom Lucy had previously worked for, had rented a big house outside of London with a swimming pool. One very hot day we went in and practically froze! We were trying to survive on $7 a day so any restaurants Lucy took us to were a big help. We repaid her with dinner at a cheap Chinese restaurant in Soho. A street vendor selling records had the Beatles "I want to hold your hand". Peter had heard of them. We listened for about a minute and weren't impressed. Ken Fox

Lucy met thousands of people in her magnificent life.  I was but one when we spoke about another Ellington project she was considering.  My husband, Brooks Kerr, protege of the Duke, spoke with Lucy several times about his 17 year association with Mr. Ellington and found her most delightful and astute.  He has departed, also, but I bet they are all somewhere together having not only more conversations but having a great jam session!  Lucy, RIP.   Charlotte Cloud Kerr
