Lou Salvatore passed away on Tuesday February 15, 2022, at the age of 75 after a valiant fight with brain cancer. He is survived by his three children, Louis (Jeanine), Dawn (Rick) and Rob (Steph); his three grandchildren, Alex, Ryan, and Jake; and his brother, Anthony (Suzanne).
Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Lou was the ultimate family man, always caring for and guiding his children and extended family. He was inseparable from Rosemarie, his wife of almost 53 years. Rosemarie lost her battle with breast cancer ten months ago with Lou providing great comfort and care every step of the way. Together, they traveled the world and hosted gatherings filled with great wine and food for family and friends at their homes in New York City and Hilton Head, South Carolina.
After attending Fordham University Lou started at the accounting firm Arthur Andersen in the fall of 1967, joining the audit practice in New York. In 1977, he was admitted as a partner in the global firm. Lou’s career advanced as he became the Managing Partner of the New York Office and Northeast Region and a member of the Board of Partners. When Arthur Andersen and the former Andersen Consulting (now Accenture) separated in 2000, Lou was asked by his partners to become the interim CEO of Arthur Andersen. Ultimately, Lou stayed with the company through 2021, successfully shepherding the business through its wind down. Over the 55 years at the firm he loved, he touched countless careers providing mentorship and inspiration.
Lou also served on numerous corporate Boards offering steady guidance and advice, including a long-term position with The Turner Corporation and with Brookfield’s family of registered funds.
An avid sports fan, Lou passionately followed the New York Rangers, New York Giants and Charleston Battery, a professional soccer team that he owned with his children. He could often be found in his seats at Madison Square Garden and Giants Stadium rooting hard with his wife, children, grandchildren, and friends.
Lou was committed to service and charitable giving and was involved in numerous non-profit organizations including New York City Partnership, The United Way, Consolidated Corporate Fund of Lincoln Center and Catholic Charities. Many years ago, Lou established the Salvatore Family Foundation to fund education and other worthy causes. Lou’s children will continue his legacy of giving through the Family Foundation.
Lou was an honest man who strived to make a positive impact on everyone in his life; his motto was simple “work hard and be good”. He will be missed by his family, friends, and colleagues around the world. Funeral services to celebrate Lou’s life will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, February 22nd at St. Jean Baptist Church (184 E 76th St, New York, NY 10021).
