It is with the greatest sadness that his family announces the death of Leonard Bernard Kaplan on December 24th, 2020 at the age of 97. He was born in Brooklyn on January 11th, 1923. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Iris Lila Kaplan, and his grandson, Bradley Keith Bongar. He was a devoted son, brother, husband, grandfather, and great grandfather. He is survived by his sister, Sally; his daughters, Meg, Jo, Beth and Amy; his grandchildren, Austin, Zoe, Molly, and Thomas; his great grandchildren, Roman and Luca; and in laws, Ronald, Richard, Sebastián, Domi, and Lisa.
He attended New York University, and at the age of 22 enlisted in the Army Corp of Engineers, where he fought in the Battle of Remagen. After the war the Kaplan family opened the first retail jewelry store on 47th Street which continues to the present.
A world traveler, gardener, skier, whistler, meticulous dresser, and nature lover, Lenny lived life with a sense of humor and kindness. On April 3rd, 2020 he lost his loving wife, Iris, of 73 years. He will best be remembered walking with the blue haired love of his life down Park Avenue.
