SO SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT KATE I DIDN'T KNOW SHE PASSED AWAY I RODE THE BUS WITH HER WHEN SHE WAS STILL WORKING I SENT HER A CARD AND WHEN I DIDN'T RECEIVE ONE BACK I KNEW SOMETHING WAS WRONG. SHE WAS A LOVELY LADY ONE OF A KIND. SO SORRY .

We just learned of the passing of your Mom and we’re very saddened to hear the news. She and your Dad were such great neighbors on 240th Street in Woodlawn. I’m still very saddened by the loss of Kate
I met Kate and Jack in the early 80s and remember that she always was so nice to me
But just when she was retiring about six years ago she helped me so much by helping to fix my cello. 
So my visits to her was special and I enjoyed her company and was glad to be able to take her a pie 
I join many others who will also miss her

Aunt Katie was always beautiful and well put together.  She really never aged the way most people do.  Busy as she was, you always felt that she SAW you.  Her compliments felt sincere and important.   Aunt Katie and Uncle Jack's home was filled with amazing things collected on their business trips to places few people visited in those days. You really learned to SEE art and the world in their home. When I was 8 and my sister Beryl was 5, our Mom became sick after the birth of our baby sister. We stayed at Katie's home for OVER a week. One day she sat down and told me not to move.  She took out a pad and made an amazing pencil sketch of me! I felt VERY special. My mom framed it and hung it in our home.  Today I have it and people always LOVE it!  Katie will always be in our hearts.  Thank you, Marcia, for that beautiful funeral.

Looking through family albums and found so many beautiful pictures of Aunt Katie.   With love, Beryl and David, Anita and John, Carla and Lenny, and our children who all loved their great aunt Katie. 


Aunt Katie always made you feel that she SAW you.  When she gave you a compliment, it felt very important.  Visits to Aunt Katie and Uncle Jack's house were magical because their home was filled with "magical" pieces from the exotic places they visited for their business.  You learned to SEE when you were there.  When I was 8 1/2 and Beryl was 5, our mother became ill after the birth of our baby sister.  One afternoon she sat down and told me not to move. She made the most amazing pencil portrait of ME!  Mom framed it and I have it now.  It really captured me.  Aunt Katie we LOVE you and will always remember you

Aunt Katie was very determined. One example, that is a favorite family memory, is from nearly two decades ago when she was taking Amtrak from New York to Boston for our son, Ari Hoffman's, bar mitzvah. Something happened and the train stopped, with the passengers stranded on board overnight in frigid temperatures. That didn't deter Aunt Katie. Only hours after finally arriving at the hotel the next morning, Katie was there joining in the celebration, dressed perfectly, and unfazed by having spent the night sitting up on an icy cold train. We have so many memories of Katie, years ago in the Bronx house, in her Manhattan apartment, giving us tours of Ideal music, participating in our seders, or sharing a meal at one of her favorite restaurants. We loved listening to her stories about the business and her travels with Uncle Jack, and we equally loved our discussions about politics and world events. Aunt Katie will be missed.
