Jocelyn Bess Steelman, of New York, New York, passed away suddenly on Saturday, September 30th, 2023 at the age of 46. She is survived by her husband Elliot Steelman, her children Jacob and Felix Steelman, her parents Mitchell and Jill Friedman, her sister Pam Ollendorff (Scott), brother Jeffrey Friedman. Daughter-in-law to Barry and Sheila Steelman, Sister-in-law to Erica Steelman and Michael Steelman (Dawna). Devoted aunt to Andrew Ollendorff, Ben Ollendorff, Hila Steelman, MJ Steelman, and Dana Friedman.
Jocelyn was raised in Great Neck, NY. She attended Washington University in St. Louis where she met her devoted husband Elliot. After moving to New York following college, Jocelyn began what would be, a multi-decade career at Moody’s where she was most recently promoted to GM-Product Strategy. She was also a founder of the Women’s BRG at Moody’s and a mentor to many.
In New York City, she would build a home with Elliot. Jocelyn’s most prized title was that of mom to her two boys. She loved her boys and was so proud of the young men she raised and so meaningfully helped shape and guide them in their journey of life. She was a devoted baseball mom, traveling all over, always encouraging her boys and teammates to do their best, and was not shy of letting umpires know when they didn’t.
Jocelyn loved to explore, always looking for the next adventure to go on with her family. She enjoyed hosting dinners, throwing parties, and she was a fantastic cook and consummate baker--- passing that gift on to Jacob and Felix. She savored summer vacations in Nantucket and traveling to the Galapagos, London, Italy, and Paris with her boys.
Additionally, Jocelyn was a philanthropist, always looking to help others and give back. She served on various boards of directors and actively supported many charitable causes. Jocelyn established with Elliot a need-based scholarship for students at their alma mater Washington University in St. Louis, and was a long time supporter of the Billion Oyster Project and the New York Harbor School.
Jocelyn was a kind, gentle and compassionate woman. A sophisticated leader and brilliant business mind. Most of all she loved her family and friends.
