Joanne was the cherished wife of Robert Blum. Proud mother of Peter and his wife Hilary, Harriet and her husband Charles Felts. She was a loving sister to Irving Kofsky and his wife Ann. She was a devoted grandmother to Benjamin, Robb and his wife Stephanie, Sidney, and Lizzy and her husband Ben Fortgang. Joanne was also blessed to be a great grandmother to Aiden Blum (2 years) and April Fortgang (2 months).
Born on May 16, 1931, and raised in Brooklyn, NY, Joanne was a woman of many passions who always kept herself busy. She was an independent, driven woman whose goal was to stay busy. Joanne had a lifelong love for sports whether she was a participant or a fan. She was an avid golfer, skier and tennis player. While living in the Poconos, she was a proud member of Lord Valley Country Club where she partook in many tournaments not only as a player but as an organizer as well. In addition to these active sports, Joanne was a bridge enthusiast who competed in tournaments and duplicate. No matter what the activity, she loved the challenge and the camaraderie. When Joanne moved to Florida, this passion went with her. Her skills and ability improved, and her circle of friends became that much bigger. As a fan, Joanne loved her Mets. She was a fierce supporter of this team, a love born from her loyalty to Brooklyn, especially after the Dodgers left. She watched every game and always had a commentary to follow.
Joanne traveled the world with Bob, her best friend and husband for 37 years. After Bob’s passing, she continued to further explore the world to enrich her life and experience new cultures. In addition to travel, Joanne loved the Broadway theatre and ballet. She also loved to sing.
Joanne was a force of nature whose energy, warmth and zest for life touched everyone who knew her. Her kindness, generosity and humor will be deeply missed by her family and friends who had the privilege to know her.
The funeral will be held on April 9, 2025 at 11:00 am at Riverside Memorial Chapel, 180 West 76th Street, New York. The service will be available via Live Stream following the link below. The burial will follow at Mount Judah Cemetery, 81-14 Cypress Avenue, Queens, NY.
