James ‘Zeke’ Manuel was born June 20, 1931 as the oldest child of Alice Manuel. He was born in Goldsboro, North Carolina where he spent some time working on the farm and working in his Grandparents country store.
He attended schools in Goldsboro and Dudley, North Carolina. In 1950, he enlisted in the United States Army. He loved serving his country. He received many awards and recognitions. His favorites were:
1. Army Occupation Medal (Japan)
2. Korean Service Medal with 2 Bronze service medal.
3. A United Nations Service Medal
After an Honorable Discharge in 1953, he relocated to New York and lived there for about 68 years. He was employed by several furniture companies. In a few years, he met and married Marie Brown. They had a wonderful life together. They traveled, entertained friends and loved fishing.
On Monday, January 24 2022, James made his transition peaceable at the Amsterdam Nursing Facility in Manhattan, New York.
James was preceded in death by his Wife, Marie Brown Manuel; his Mother, Alice Manuel Hubbard; his Father, Preston Loftin; one Sister, Ernestine and two brothers, Junior and Ralph.
He leaves to cherish his memory: one Daughter, Debra Washington of Charlotte, North Carolina; six grandchildren, Kimberley of Raleigh, North Carolina; Samuel of Greensboro, North Carolina; Joy of Durhan, North Carolina; Rico William and Nicole of Charlotte, North Carolina; two great grandchildren, Vadoll and Dominique of Raleigh, North Carolina; One brother, King (Olivia) Hubbard of Hillside, New Jersey; Three Sister – in-laws, Retha of Prosper, Texas; Christine of Goldsboro, North Carolina and Lisa of Raleigh, North Carolina and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
