We are sad to inform all who knew, respected, and loved him that Jack Sanford Webb died April 20, 2022. Jack was born February 17, 1930, in Alberta, Canada to American parents, and grew up in Oklahoma and Texas. He graduated from Oklahoma University where he studied Aeronautical Engineering and was a member of Tau Beta Pi. Upon graduation, through the ROTC, he was commissioned into the US Air Force, where he learned to fly, a lifelong love which shaped the course of his careers. While working with Honeywell in New Orleans, he met and married his wife of almost 61 years, Vaughn.
In 1965, Jack joined American Airlines as a pilot, and was based in New York for the entire 25 years of his career, retiring in 1990. He also flew for 29 years with the Air National Guard of Oklahoma, Louisiana, and New York, from which he retired with the rank of Colonel with a brevet promotion to Brigadier General.
Instead of retiring with a fishing pole or golf clubs, Jack worked the next 21 years with an investment firm in Connecticut. He was always involved with his church and community volunteer activities. Jack is survived by his wife, Vaughn (New York City), daughter Jennifer (Easton, Connecticut), and a niece and two nephews in Texas. His daughter, Julie, predeceased him.
Instead of a funeral, there will be a private inurnment service at 5th Avenue Presbyterian Church Columbarium, New York City. The family suggests that any memorial gifts be directed to either MJHS Hospice and Palliative Care Foundation, 39 Broadway, 3rd floor, New York, NY 10006, The Salvation Army, 120 West 14th Street, New York, NY 10011, or the food pantry of your choice.
Godspeed, Jack. You now have your third set of wings.
