Jack was an extraordinary trial lawyer and criminal defense attorney, who practiced law until 92 at the Hoffinger Firm, alongside his two daughters. Among his professional accomplishments, Jack served as an Assistant District Attorney in New York County under Frank Hogan and was President of the New York Criminal Bar Association. He was a zealous advocate who mentored and inspired many lawyers, including all three of his children who followed his lead as criminal defense attorneys.
Jack was a proud graduate of Townsend Harris High School, City College, from which he graduated Phi Beta Kappa, and Yale Law School, where he was managing editor of the Law Review.
Married for 65 years to Bunny, until her death in 2018, Jack will be dearly missed by his children, Adam, Fran and Susan and their spouses, and by his grandchildren who called him Poppop, Rebecca, Alice, David, Noah, Ben, Kate, William and Margaret.
The funeral will be private. The family would appreciate donations in Jack’s memory to the Society for the Advancement of Judaism or the Yiddish Book Center, organizations to which he was devoted.
