Hilary P. Califano

CALIFANO - Hilary Paley Byers passed away peacefully at the age of 82 after a short illness on Thursday, January 27th in New York City. Vivacious and loving, hilarious and generous, Hilary will be remembered by her impeccable taste, her passion for life and devotion to her family. She is survived by Joseph A. Califano, Jr., her beloved husband of almost 40 years, with whom she traveled the world and who adored her beyond words. She was a devoted mother to her loving children, Brooke and Frick Byers; her son in law, Eugene Goldman; and her stepchildren, Mark Califano, Dr. Joseph Califano and Dr. Claudia Califano. She was an exuberant grandmother to Brian, Russell and Evan Goldman; Jack, Peter, Olivia and Nicholas Califano; and Grace and Patrick Califano Becker. She was a cherished sister to Joy Ingham, Tony Mortimer, Amanda Burden, Bill Paley, Kate Paley and the late Jeff Paley. Hilary was predeceased by her first husband John Frederic Byers III.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Hilary Califano’s name to New York Presbyterian Hospital.

A visitation for Hilary will be held at Frank E. Campbell – The Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, February 2nd, from 4-7pm. A funeral mass will be held at St. Ignatius Loyola on Thursday, February 3rd at 11am

We will be requiring a mask and proof of vaccination upon entry on Wednesday.
