Dr Caracci treated my aging mother while he was at Cabrini.  He also would stop by and visit her when he did consulting work in a Mamaroneck, NY nursing home.  He did the latter entirely on his own.   My mother was so surprised to see him.  My mother was in the early stages of dementia and he took her off of medication that was making it worse.   I also needed help as the care taker daughter.  He gave me great strength and hope to move on and do the things a daughter should do.  My mother and my father were both Itallian.  Mother liked to speak Italian to Dr. Caracci.  He was an outstanding doctor who cared deeply about his patients.   It is so unfair that this lovely, kind and brilliant physician was taken from us too soon.  I will never forget him.

I was a student at NJMS while Dr. Caracci was the Interim Chairman of the Department of Psychiatry. He was such a wonderful teacher, mentor and role model and a record number of students (12 - 15 to be precise) went into Psychiatry from my batch because he inspired us to. 
His legacy will live on.

I am so sorry to hear of the loss of Dr. Caracci. I worked with him at Cabrini Medical Center, where he was a gifted teacher and mentor. I truly enjoyed working with him, as I briefly did as his assistant Director of Training. His knowledge of Psychiatry and the world beyond was encyclopedic and his sense of humor, delightful. I hope that you will be comforted by your memories of Dr. Giovanni Caracci.
