I had Dr. Goldberg for a one-on-one writing class. during which he told me this:  "If you want to be a writer, be a writer.  If you want to be a writer to sell something, go sell tires."  He and his wife kindly opened their door to me in 1972 during an intensely-rainy night in Paris.  We had a wonderful evening of conversation and at the door, he told me something else that night I never forgot:  "You need to go have fun.  Stop worrying."  It might have been the very last time I worried about anything.  Thank you so much for that, Dr. Goldberg.

I took Professor Goldberg’s creative writing class during the 5 years I studied at UCLA.....I was going to Israel on a Rotary Foundation Graduate Fellowship in July 1973 right before the outbreak of the Yom Kippur War.
As a going away present he gave me a signed copy of his collection of short stories “126 Days of Continuous Sunshine” and wrote inside something like here’s to great times and sunshine in Israel, little knowing what was to happen there.
I was so lucky to have to reconnected after all these years and had a phone conversation (I live in LA) with him that he really enjoyed.
I promised him I would send him a signed copy of my book of poetry “Raining Down from Heaven White-Light Curveballs of the Mystical Soulful Poems of the Downtown L. A. Poet “ S.A. Weisberg.
When I called to tell him the good news  Nancy told me the sad news. He will be greatly missed.
