A native of Tarentum, Pennsylvania, and a graduate of Swarthmore College, Frank Sloan has been active in publishing for 25 years. Most of these have been directly involved with children’s books, including a stint as Art Director and Production Manager at Franklin Watts from 1968-1971. From 1971 to 1976 Sloan lived in London and worked on a number of publishing projects. From 1976 to 1989 Sloan was Senior Editor (and then Executive Editor) for Franklin Watts, where his responsibilities included coordinating joint projects with the Watts London office and with other international publishers as well.
In 1989 he joined Crestwood House as Editorial Director, when the imprint of nonfiction high-interest low-vocabulary titles was acquired by the Macmillan Children’s Book Group. In 1992 he will be launching a totally new imprint of children’s nonfiction information books for the Macmillan Children’s Book Group.
Sloan is a board member of the Children’s Book Council, as well as Co-chair of the IRA-CBC Joint Committee. Active in SCBW activities, he’s also a board member.
His first book for young readers, TITANIC, was published by Watts in 1987 and listed as a Children’s Choices title for 1988. His second book, BISMARCK, will be published in 1991. He is currently working on another project.
