Félix Eduardo Santiago Pérez, M.D., 47-year resident of New York City, passed away peacefully and from metastatic kidney cancer on November 11, 2022, at his home on the Upper East Side. Nearing his Medicare birthday, he was born to Félix Santiago and Lydia Perez on November 21, 1957 in Guayama, Puerto Rico. Dr. Santiago was the sole son in a family of three daughters: Lydia, Maria and Miriam. Left to mourn his passing is his devoted husband Norbert Gasser, daughter Lydia Jennifer Santiago (Brian), devoted niece Lydia Mercy Velez (Lito) and former wife Rita Padilla, M.D. Dr. Santiago, a noted pediatrician, studied at Fordham University and the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, and did his residency at Montefiore Hospital. Over 24 years of leadership in the field, Dr. Santiago called Beth Israel, Gouverneur and Harlem hospitals his professional homes. He served as Head of Pediatrics for his dozen years at Gouverneur. Dr. Santiago’s avocational interests included world-travel, the New York Yankees, and Bayern München soccer team. Most of all, Félix was devoted to his steadfast and beloved family of friends.
Frank E. Campbell Funeral Home was in charge of cremation, with entombment of ashes at The Church of the Holy Trinity. A service to honor the memory of Dr. Santiago will be announced at a later date.
