Dorene A. Mallon

Dorene A. Mallon, 64, of upper Eastside, New York, Wilmington, and Dewey Beach Delaware,

died peacefully at MSK hospital, surrounded by her loving family and friends.

A memorial service for Dorene will be held at the Frank E. Campbell funeral home December

15, 2023 between 5:30 PM and 8:30 PM. A mass of Christian burial will follow Saturday

morning, December 16, 2023 at Saint Thomas More’s Church located at 65 E. 89th St., New

York, NY 10028. A celebration of life and a mass service will be held in Wilmington, Delaware at

a future date in January 2024.

Dorene was born on October 5, 1959, in the Bronx, New York to Charles Mallon and Mary

Irene (Dunne) Mallon. She is survived by her brothers, James Mallon, Charles “Chip” Mallon,

sister-in-law Linda, nephews and nieces, Charlie, Megan, Matthew, Catie, James, Eric, and

seven great nieces and nephews Elena, Ben, Diego, Tripp, Lucy, Tommy, and Charlotte.

Dorene started her education by graduating from John Dickinson, high school in

Wilmington, Delaware, where she was a featured twirler in their award-winning band. She

then attended the University of Delaware, where she graduated with a degree in business

administration, always on the dean’s list. She completed her education with an MBA from

Columbia University.

After college, Dorene’s successful career began with a short stint at the Bank of Delaware as

a branch teller and ended at BNY Mellon as a Managing Director. Within this era, she

excelled in various roles, including senior vice president positions in foreign currency sales,

and trading. Her career evolved over 3 decades with positions at Citibank, Barclays, HSBC

and BNY Mellon. Throughout her career, Dorene was greatly respected for her work ethic,

camaraderie and integrity; her kindness, positive attitude, and willingness to always lend a

helping hand are all hallmarks of her caring nature. She had an infectious love of life and a

boundless energy, which impacted not just her work colleagues, but multiple generations of

her beloved family and her extensive circle of friends at both home and abroad. She was a

mentor and a role model for many.

Dorene was most recently challenged by the diagnosis of stage four pancreatic cancer. She

was diagnosed over two years ago and she managed her illness in her inimitable, dignified

and practical own way. Dorene’s cancer team led by Dr. O’Reilly at MSK and her own positive

attitude, allowed her to fight the good fight for longer than anyone thought possible.

Dorene brought joy to all that knew her. She continued to visit Ireland, Florida, and

Delaware, where she graciously embraced the help, support, and love of her family and

friends. She spent her final months and days arranging gifts and expressions of love and

thanks for everyone around her. She touched many in her lifetime and will be greatly missed.

May she rest in peace.

Donations may be made to the pancreatic cancer foundation in her honor, in lieu of flowers.
