Dora Dubsky, aged 96, passed away after a short illness on Wednesday, April 6, 2011. She was in the loving company of family and friends. Originally from Czechoslovakia, Dora studied and performed music, dance and eurythmics in Prague, Vienna, Paris, Geneva, and London. She moved to New York City in the 1940s and became an acclaimed Creative Movement specialist, a music teacher, and the author of two books. She devoted her life to music and movement education, teaching for many years at the 92nd Street Y and many other places in and around New York--the city that sheltered her, delighted her, and became a true home.
Apart from her successful professional life, Dora will be remembered for her unwavering love of children (especially her many students), animals ... and Central Park. Her gifts of friendship and humor will forever remain in the hearts of the many many people, young and old, whose lives were enriched by her and who in turn gave her so much. Her two sisters pre-deceased her; she is survived by their children, and loved and mourned by them, her dear friends, and her devoted caregivers.
