We announce with profound sorrow the passing of Christopher John Gimbel, a deeply cherished husband, father, son, brother, and friend. Chris departed this life peacefully on January 15, 2024, following a long battle with cancer. Born on May 19, 1974, the day the Philadelphia Flyers won their first Stanley Cup, in Philadelphia's Port Richmond neighborhood, he was 49 years old at the time of his passing.
Chris's journey through life was marked by his deep faith in God, his commitment to health, and his incredible resilience and unwavering spirit. He faced his illness with remarkable courage, never complaining, never giving up, and always trying to get better.
He was a proud graduate of St. Joseph's Preparatory High School. During his time at Rutgers University, he fostered lifelong friendships, particularly with his Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity brothers. He later completed his Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Thomas Edison University, leading to a successful career in technology and cybersecurity management.
He was incredibly funny, loved traveling with his family (especially to Disney World), working out, gift-giving, keeping up with current affairs, listening to music, and spending football Sunday on the couch with his kids. He was a life-long, die-hard PHILLY SPORTS FAN! He was the heartbeat of his family and he leaves behind a legacy of love. Survived by his loving spouse of 14 years, Ashley Gimbel, and their three children, Ruby, Dylan, and Noah, Chris also leaves his adoring parents, Bernadette and Tom Gimbel; his sister, Beth Rainier, and her husband, Tom; his brother, Tim Gimbel, and his wife, Nancy; along with six nieces and nephews, and a large, loving extended family.
His spirit of generosity and kindness touched everyone he met. His legacy of love, laughter, and perseverance will forever be cherished by those fortunate enough to have known him.
A visitation for Christopher will be held Sunday, January 21, 2024 from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Frank E. Campbell - The Funeral Chapel, 1076 Madison Ave, New York, New York 10028. A mass of Christian Burial will occur Monday, January 22, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Church of Our Saviour, 59 Park Ave. (at 38th St.), New York, NY 10016. Interment will be private.
