Carol Linda Dauplaise, 77 years young passed away on February 29th 2016 in Midtown Manhattan. She is survived by her sons, Jeffrey and Richard, daughters-in-law Debra and Aimee, five grandchildren, Nicole, Stephanie, Paige, Dean and Jake, her sister Barbara and the rest of her loving family and friends.
Carol’s time was devastatingly cut short 8:30 Monday morning on Madison Avenue at 36th Street on her way to work as a livery cab struck her, pinning her under the car. Carol, a good samaritan herself, would have appreciated knowing pedestrians and drivers fiercely banned together to flip the car in an attempt to save her.
Carol was no ordinary 77 year old. Born in Manhattan, the beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend was a leader in the fashion/trend jewelry world for over fifty years. She began her career in the jewelry business as a receptionist and with steadfast determination inched her way to become president of the Miriam Haskell Jewelry Company. Still a force to be reckoned with, in 1978, she was driven to strike out on her own and opened Carol Dauplaise Limited with a single salesperson and one design assistant. Today, the multi-million dollar company employs over fifty people in Manhattan and many others in factories all over the world.
Her marriage to famed harness driver, Norman Dauplaise, was a true love story which ended when he passed away in 2003 due to esophageal cancer. She often mused the best times of her life were days spent with her family on Melville Lane in Great Neck.
In lieu of flowers, the family knows Carol would have preferred donations go to Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital for cancer research.
