On October 29, Carol Ceppos succumbed to her 13 year battle with Alzheimer’s Disease, almost four years to the day she lost her beloved husband of 62 years, Ken. She is survived by her children Rhona, Larry and daughter-in-law, Cherie; grandchildren Morgan, Ashton, Cassidy and Dan. An only child to Mollie and Al Plotkin, she was blessed with numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Carol graduated from Hunter College with a BS in Chemistry, and went to work in a lab as a chemist. She then left her career to make a loving home and raise her children. Later on, she joined the family business, retiring at 72. Carol was the personification of the 1950’s Good Housekeeping’s housewife. She created a beautiful home where all were welcome. She and Ken were hosts to numerous neighborhood parties, “family circles”, “cousins clubs”, and having friends and family over for pool parties. Always impeccably manicured, coiffed and dressed yet warm, kind, and loving, and always had a kind word for everyone, and rarely raised her voice. She will also be remembered for starting the Youth Employment Services at Blind Brook High School and volunteering her time in various ways in the community.
She filled the house with love and joy, and everyone especially loved the holiday meals she prepared for our extended family – the smell of a turkey in the oven, pot roast on the stove and matzo ball soup are the smells of love for our family.
We would like to thank the staff from Maplewood at Orange who took such good care of Carol for the past four years, Constellation Health Care who provided hospice care for two years during Covid, and Connecticut Hospice, whose staff were there for Carol’s final months. Everyone was so kind, compassionate and loving towards Carol and her family, and we cannot begin to express our gratitude.
Donations can be made in Carol’s honor to Smilow Cancer Center at YNNH (Closer to Free) or the Alzheimer’s Association.
