Brooks Jackson passed away at the age of 98. He was born February 28, 1924 in Athens, Texas and died September 25, 2022 in New York City. His parents were Dean and Martha Brooks-Jackson. Also preceded in death, his wife Adriana Celli-Jackson, one brother, and five sisters.
Brooks is survived by Kelly King, numerous nieces and nephews, and many friends.
In 1944, Brooks danced one season with Martha Graham Dancers. In 1946, he danced in George Balanchine’s Ballet Society which became New York City Ballet in 1948. He danced with the legendary company until 1954. Brooks also performed in three Broadway shows, and danced on the Ed Sullivan Show, Kate Smith Show, and Bob Hope Show. After he stopped dancing, Brooks worked with art dealer and gallery owner Alexander Iolas. Brooks eventually opened his own gallery called the Brooks Jackson-Iolas Gallery. Brooks and Adrianna were famous for their dinner parties. Andy Warhol and his entourage were often invited. After Iolas and Adriana died, Brooks retired and spent many years living in Key West, Florida. Then he moved to Coconut Grove and Ft Lauderdale, Florida.
Brooks will be remembered for his generosity, his talent, sophistication, and love for his friends.
A memorial service will be held October 22, 2022, at 2pm.
