Barbara Levine RD, PhD, passed away on Monday at the age of 71. As a researcher, consultant, and professor of nutrition, she was a pioneer in her field. Barbara received her doctorate degree in Biochemistry from New York University, summa cum laude. She later became an Associate Professor of Medicine at New York Presbyterian at Weill Cornell Medical Center and Director of Nutrition at Rockefeller University. Dr. Levine appeared in numerous periodicals including The New York Times and conducted many radio and television interviews on programs like The Today Show and The View with noted journalists like Barbara Walters and Bryant Gumbel. Some of her proudest accomplishments were founding both The Nutrition Information and Calcium & Magnesium Information Centers and testifying before Congress on the importance of DHA & Omega 3 fatty acids. At her core, Barbara was a charmer and an optimist with an unabashed sense of humor. Dr. Levine is survived by her husband Roy, daughter Jenny, son Adam, two granddaughters, and other relatives.
