Monty was born in New York City, the son of the late Giro Zullo and the late Elina (Capuano) Zullo. A younger sister, Mary Lou (Zullo) Larsen Flaherty died in 2006. Survivors include two nephews, Mark Larsen and Paul Larsen, along with many cousins. Monty enjoyed the life-long friendship of Dorothy Gordon, Josie Lopez and Fran Healy.
Monty was a long-time resident of New York City and East Hampton, N.Y., and lived in South Florida for a while in his later years.
Monty attended Fairleigh Dickinson University and later obtained a master’s degree from the State University of New York at Stony Brook. Early in his career, Monty worked with the entertainer Lloyd Price. Monty spent most of his career in the hospitality industry. Notable positions he held included the general manager of Doubles, a nightclub in The Sherry-Netherland Hotel, and as the general manager for Maxim’s restaurant, Pierre Cardin’s Madison Avenue hotspot. Monty also was involved in property development projects, most notably, in Saint Lucia.
Some of Monty’s passions included cooking and spending time with friends in the Hamptons, Florida and Saint Lucia. He also enjoyed collecting art and working on music and film projects.
A visitation for Monty will be held Thursday, January 25, 2024 from 3PM to 5PM at Frank E. Campbell - The Funeral Chapel, 1076 Madison Ave, New York, New York 10028. A final visitation will occur Thursday, January 25, 2024 from 7PM to 9PM.
A funeral mass of christian burial will occur Friday, January 26, 2024 at 10AM at St. Ignatius Loyola Church, 980 Park Ave, NY, New York. An interment to follow mass will occur at Calvary Cemetery, 49-02 Laurel Hill Blvd., Woodside, New York 11377.
