An extraordinary and beloved woman, Andrea died from pancreatic cancer in her sleep at home in Manhattan on January 15, 2023. Andrea was born on April 14, 1950 in Brooklyn, NY to Lawrence and Shirley Gottlieb and graduated from James Madison High School and Cornell University. After college, Andrea embarked on a highly successful career in fashion, including stints as Fashion Director at B. Altman & Company and VF Corporation. Andrea met her husband Paul at a party thrown by a mutual friend from Cornell in 1974, and two years later their marriage of more than 47 years began. Upon the birth of her daughter Nina in 1985, who was followed three years later by her son Peter, Andrea left the fashion business but never lost her impeccable sense of style. Pursuing her passion for art, she obtained a master’s degree in Museum Education from the Bank Street College of Education and for more than thirty years was a docent at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, inspiring the many elementary school children she led on tours. Andrea was an avid tennis player, cyclist, skier, and world traveler and had a boundless curiosity and sense of adventure. She was also multilingual, having picked up Italian while studying in Florence during college, and was mastering French to use on her frequent trips with Paul to her cherished Paris. But more importantly, she was an adoring wife, mother, grandmother, and friend and, in turn, had the immense love and admiration of her family and countless friends. In addition to her husband and children and their spouses Michael and Brooke, Andrea is survived by her grandchildren Emilio and Isabel and brother Richard Gottlieb. She requested that any donations in her memory be sent to Cornell University’s Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Art, where she was a member of the Advisory Council.
In lieu of flowers, Andrea requested that any donations in her memory be sent to Cornell University's Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Art, where she was a member of the Advisory Council.
