Amanda Lillian Quick, age 32, passed away on January 18, 2025, in New York City after a courageous battle with metastatic breast cancer, surrounded by her loving family. Her life was a vibrant tapestry of love, curiosity, compassion, and woven together by a steadfast faith in God.
Born on June 5, 1992, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Paul and Avalyn, Amanda’s boundless energy and zest for life were evident from day one. She embraced a wide range of passions, including singing in the youth choir, serving as an acolyte, acting, and excelling in sports from dance to basketball and rowing. Amanda’s adventurous spirit was fueled by living in various places throughout her formative years, including Kansas City, Boston, and Wilkes Barre. Amanda graduated from Wyoming Seminary Preparatory School, where she proudly played on the Varsity Field Hockey team that became the 2008 Pennsylvania State Champions.
Amanda’s passion for journalism led her to The Newhouse School of Journalism at Syracuse University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Broadcast and Digital Journalism, with minors in Marketing and Chinese Studies, graduating with honors. One of her college highlights was interning for three summers with NBC Sports, including an unforgettable stint working on the 2012 Olympics in London. Also at Syracuse, Amanda launched her company, “The Next Zuck,” a media outlet dedicated to showcasing college founders and entrepreneurship nationwide. She continued her academic journey as an SU Fellow, earning a Master’s Degree in Information Management, graduating with honors.
Amanda’s professional career was equally remarkable. She spent six years at KPMG and held various risk management / technology assurance roles. In the last two years, she took her talents to American Express, making an impact in the U.S. Consumer Banking Group. Her colleagues admired her leadership, dedication, teamwork, and collaborative spirit.
Amanda’s smile lit up the whole room. She was a spirited soul, known for her wit and deep empathy, leaving everyone around her feeling uplifted and inspired. Amanda loved watching documentaries, engaging in thoughtful conversations, and cheering on college and professional sports teams. She was a die-hard Kansas City Chiefs fan. Amanda cherished adventures and travel experiences with family and friends, often finding joy in discovering new places. As a natural storyteller, Amanda found peace in reading and writing. She also found fulfillment in worship at Meta Church and serving on the guest services & hospitality team.
Family get-togethers for the holidays and any special occasion delighted Amanda, especially when it included lots of board games and delicious food. She loved pasta and enjoyed making her signature flavorful quiche. Amanda also cherished her regular sister dinners with Lexi, during which they shared laughter, the latest fashion trends, FaceTiming with their dog Cody, and other things only sisters can share.
Amanda was deeply committed to making the world a better place. She served on the board of directors for The Pink Agenda, contributing to education and event committees to raise awareness about breast cancer among young professionals and to raise funds for research. She also served as an advocate and supporter of the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Amanda spoke about her diagnosis publicly - joining BCRF partners Ann Taylor and LOFT in their "Sisterhood of Strength" campaign, and shared her experiences on Good Morning America, and Suffering the Silence. She was dedicated to supporting her alma mater as a Syracuse University's Generation Orange Leadership Council and recently served on the Newhouse Emerging Leaders board. She received the prestigious Generation Orange Alumni Award in the spring of 2024.
Amanda leaves behind her devoted parents, Avalyn and Paul of Bloomington, IN; her beloved sister, Lexi, of New York City; her maternal grandmother, Bernice Law, and paternal grandmother, Pauline Pendleton; and a host of over 50+ aunts, uncles, cousins, and godparents; and countless friends.
