Alicia “Lily” CastroLeal Harper, beloved stage actress, writer and producer, passed away peacefully on April 8th, surrounded by her sons, Philip and Harold, and her daughter-in-law, Rocio.
Born in Mexico City on December 13, 1947, brought up in Paris as a small girl, Alicia was the youngest daughter of Dr. Antonio Castro Leal and Rafaela Espino. Her father, a distinguished Mexican diplomat and intellectual; exposed Alicia from an early age to a rich world of art, culture, and ideas. An influence that shaped the course of her life.
Alicia’s passion for the arts was evident from a young age. She began her career acting on the stage. It was the theater where she eventually met the love of her life, Alan Harper, a producer of CBS News SUNDAY MORNING. Together they shared a deep love for the arts, exploring cultures across the globe and creating meaningful work inspired by the beauty they found in the world around them. After Alan’s passing, Alicia continued her journey traveling, creating, and building a remarkable legacy as an artist, entrepreneur and mother.
Above all, Alicia was a devoted mother whose greatest joy came from her family. Her children were the heart of her world and her strongest motivation. A true force of nature, Alicia’s warmth, vitality, and indomitable spirit left a lasting mark on everyone lucky enough to know her.
