Brian McKensie Southern was born March 21, 1963 and passed away suddenly at his home in East Greenwich, RI on December 16, 2011. He grew up in Middlesboro, Ky. and was a 1986 graduate of the University of Tennessee College of Engineering. Brian was a professional chemical engineer and at the time of his death, he was employed by Rhodes Technologies in Coventry, RI. His engineering career included employment at Amgen and Eli Lilly and Co.
Brian was active with the Boy Scouts, serving as a Junior Webelos Leader in East Greewich. He was also a member of the East Greenwich United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife Angela (Cheser) Southern, Son: Alexander Southern, Parents: Joan Miller (Robert) and Maxwell Southern (Skeet), Sister: Kimberly Damron (Troy); Step-brothers: Mark and Greg Carter; Nieces: Sabrina and Ally Damron and Nephew: Brandon Damron.
In lieu of flowers the family is asking for donations to be made in Brian’s memory to the East Greenwich United Methodist Church, 1558 South County Trail, East Greenwich, RI 02818.
The family will receive friends from 12-1PM Wed., Dec. 28, 2011 at Coffey Funeral Home in Harrogate. Funeral service will follow at 1:00PM with Rev. Donnie Bannister and Rev. Lawrence Fultz officiating. Burial will follow at the Oak Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers are his cousins, Bob Weaver, Jim Weaver, John; Weaver, Auburn Pearman, Jr.; his nephew, Brandon Damron and his brother-in-law, Michael Cheser. Coffey Funeral Home in charge.
