Betty was born in the Mulberry Community of Hancock County where she lived a good, prosperous, love-filled life. Saved as a young girl, she was a life-long member of Little Mulberry Baptist Church. Betty was an excellent cook that specialized in baking and candy making; her seamstress skills were matched by few; and she could grow a garden anywhere, but none of that compared to the fulfillment she got from being called Granny. She loved her grandchildren beyond measure. Although the cornerstone of this small family has left her earthly home, she leaves them with timeless memories, countless lessons, and ridiculous life hacks that always seem to work. She wore many hats during her time here: daughter, sibling, sister-in-law, aunt, mother, grandmother, trainer, sports fan, supervisor, mentor, but mostly friend. Betty had a host of friends—many who have gone on before her and many who will mourn her passing with fond, hilarious, mischievous, warm and loving memories.
She is preceded in death by her parents Thurman and Bess Goode and her brother and sister-in-law Otis and Nancy Sue Goode.
She is survived by her daughter, Margaret Martin and her husband Craig; her grandchildren, McKaylah Martin and Kyler Martin; her sister, Kay Goode; her niece, Norma Leishman; and her great nephew, Coy Leishman and his wife Hannah. Betty leaves many cousins, sisters-in-law, church family and life-long friends that she held dear.
The family would like to thank all the family members and friends who called to check in, visited by her bedside, brought food, and/or offered help during this journey, especially those who offered up prayers on her behalf.
On Betty’s request graveside services will be held at Fairview Cemetery in Tazewell, TN at 3 PM on Sunday, May 19, 2024. Family and friends are welcome to join. Please meet at Coffey Funeral Home at 2:45 PM to go in procession to the cemetery.
