It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Thomas Guastella who left the world peacefully on September 19th, 2024 at the age of 95. Thomas was known as a gentle soul with a joyful spirit and warm smile. Thomas was born in Brooklyn, New York and was the son of the late Calogero and Filippa Guastella of Santo Stefano Quisquina, Italy. He was a loving and selfless husband and father, and a devout Catholic. He retired from the New York City Sanitation Department and later moved from East Meadow, New York to Florida in 1979. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus fraternal society at Our Lady Queen of Peace parish in New Port Richey, Florida. He then became a resident of the Timber Pines community in Spring Hill, Florida for over twenty years and most recently resided in Port Charlotte, Florida. Thomas and his wife enjoyed the pleasure of many friendships within these communities and Thomas will be remembered in the hearts of many.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Rosalia Asaro of Brooklyn, NY and a brother Salvatore Guastella of Bethlehem, PA. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Bernadette Schneller Guastella of Port Charlotte, FL; daughter Grace Mary Guastella, of Bradenton, FL; daughter Gina Maria Elliott (Allen) of Port Charlotte, FL; granddaughter Rachel Michelle Gomez of Fayetteville, TN; granddaughter Nicole Elliott Rees (Jonathan) of Tallahassee, FL; granddaughter Laura Rose Valente of Denver, CO; granddaughter Kelsey Marie Elliott of Laguna Hills, CA; great-granddaughters Natalia Shae Gomez, Makeila Sofia Gomez, and great-grandson Jefferson Allen Rees; a brother Nicolo Guastella of East Meadow, NY.; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation with the family will be Tuesday, September 24, 2024, from 12 p.m. until 1 p.m. followed by a mass at the North Meadowland Funeral Home of New Port Richey, FL.
