Theresa Elaine Dye (née Meyer), age 75, passed away peacefully at her home in Port Richey, FL on Monday, September 2, 2024. Born March 3, 1949, in Ashland, WI, she was the youngest child of Calvin Meyer (1923-1991) of Marathon County, WI, and Naida Fae Devane (1928-2006) of Sarasota, FL.
Theresa Elaine spent her first years in Wisconsin close to her paternal grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. At an early age, the Meyer family relocated to North Carolina near her maternal aunt and grandmother. There Theresa attended Davie County High School. Leaving school early to marry and start a family, she later became the first person to receive a GED in Davie County in 1967.
Relocating to Florida in the early 1970s, she married Raymond Noel Dye (1924-2015) in 1981. The couple resided in Port Richey where Theresa remained following Noel’s death. Both were active in the U.S. Army Ranger Association honoring Noel’s service as one of the first Army Rangers in WWII.
During her life, Theresa was frequently called on by her family to be a caregiver for the elderly or even much younger. She was a giving soul, both of her personal time and her resources.
Throughout her life, Theresa was a fierce supporter of Veterans’ issues and animal rescue organizations and dearly loved her three rescue kitties Muffin, Whiskers, and Cathy. She also played the piano and loved the joyful, giving spirit of Christmas which lived in her heart year-round.
Theresa was originally diagnosed with lung cancer in 2014 which was treated successfully. She was re-diagnosed in the spring of this year after which she was able to spend quality time with friends and family before her death.
Theresa is survived by her daughter, Tondra (Tammy) Mineo, son-in-law Vincent, and their children Vincenzo (Vinny, 32) and Monica (26); son Richard (Rich) Meyer and his children Stephenie (29) and Isaiah (17); brothers Kimball (Kim) Meyer and Ralph (Larry) Meyer, and sister-in-law Janice Meyer (née Cartner); nephews Kimball Jr. and Curtis Meyer and their families; and niece Elizabeth Meyer.
