Phil was born on October 22nd, 1937 to Gerald and Florence (Alguire) Carr in Watertown, NY. He joined the Air Force shortly after graduating Watertown High School and trained in radar. After 10 years as an airman in the U.S. Air Force, Phil began a career in IT hardware maintenance. After retiring from Lockheed Martin in Oldsmar Florida, he began his ‘dream career’ as a limousine and tour bus driver for Olympus Limo, retiring again in 2016 at 79. It was a job he relished, as Phil was able to combine his love of cars with his love of people. On the tour buses he used to connect with his passengers by starting ‘sing-alongs’ to make the ride more fun.
In July 1959, Phil married Barbara Zawisza. The couple lived in Burlington, VT; Wilkes Barre, PA; Homestead, FL; and the Ramstein Air Base, Germany, courtesy of the Air Force. After leaving the armed services, they lived in Rochester, NY, Fort Worth, TX, and Newport, OR. Phil and Barb had 2 daughters. They divorced in 1973.
He married Lynn E. McCann on May 2nd, 1975. They lived in the Clearwater, St. Petersburg, and the Palm Harbor region near Tampa for many years before moving to New Port Richey, FL 20 years ago.
Phil and Lynn Rae were married on May 19, 2018. They lived in New Port Richey and shared mutual interests in motorcycles, convertibles, and travel.
Phil loved dance and music, all motorized vehicles (He once told his son ‘All my toys have wheels.’), travel, dogs and Florida. He was also an artist and accomplished horseman in his youth. He won 1st prize and many ribbons with his chestnut show horse, Diamond Jubilee, when he was just 12 years old. He and Jubilee spent many happy hours on their own roaming Thompson Park in Watertown NY. Phil’s love affair with cars began in high school when his dad bought him a decrepit 1928 Ford Model T which he drove around the back yard and up and down the street. His love of Florida began when a high school girlfriend’s parents asked him to spend Christmas with them in Miami. Sunny beaches instead of 6 feet of snow! After high school he spent time in New York City trying out for the chorus line, but his bad back prevented a career in dance.
He is survived by his wife, Lynn Rae, daughters Laura (Karl) Davis, Tempe, AZ, and Tina Wersinger (fiancee Jack Zemla), Wilson, NY; sons Michael McCann (partner Sherry Fortner), Shawn (Trudy) McCann, and Brett (Sha Walker) McCann. Grandchildren include Seth (Ann) McCann and two great-grandsons Evan and Carver; Shelby (Jeff) Earley and great grandchildren Adelynn and Cameron; Brooke (Mark) Cooper, Madeline (Beau) Beck, and Spencer McCann.
Phil is also survived by his sister Julie Ellen (Carr) Kokis of Ashburn VA, cousin Deanna Alguire (Kevin) Eaves of Royal Palm Beach Florida, sister and brother-in-law Barb and Garry McElwee of New Port Richey, and sister-in-law Catherine Carr of Key Largo, FL.
Phil was preceded in death by his 2nd wife, Lynn (McCann) Carr, and his two older brothers Sherry L. and David L. Carr.
