Hilda Janet Goethe was born in Palmetto, Fl. in 1938 to George Harper Goethe & Helen Louise Castillo Goethe. Her father was a carpenter, fisherman, pastor and her mother was a homemaker and bible teacher.
Hilda has been reunited with her 2 husbands, Marion Gene Twiss & James Mitchell, both of her parents & her sister Gloria. She is survived by her daughter Tamson Valerie Hughes, her two granddaughters, Christa Corroa & Laura McCombs and her three great grandchildren, Marion, Adalyn & Christian. She will also be missed by her three sisters, Gale Brooks, Naomi Chandler and Darlene Elshire. Hilda was a great influence in the lives of her 12 nieces & nephews and their children's children.
Hilda was a lifelong scholar, intellectual, historian, political advocate and strong woman of God. She was a graduate of Naples High School in 1957 and then attended two years at Lee College in Cleveland, Tn. and received her Associate of Arts Degree from FSU. During these years Hilda was active in dramatics, speech and the Lee College Choir. Her other educational accomplishments were a degree in Dental Assistant from Brewster Technical School. She attended Delgado Community College and Holy Cross, receiving credits toward her degree, Bachelor of Arts - Interdisciplinary Social Sciences in 1991 from the University of West Florida at the age of 52.
For over 30 years she was married to Gene Twiss, a tile setter, troller and crew boat captain in Florida and Louisiana where together they were the ministers' of music at Lighthouse Fellowship in Venice, LA. They were an adventurous couple, embarking on many endeavors such as building & living on a houseboat and remodeling their home in Louisiana, Hilda was courageous in the face of adversity, dedicated to her family and the sunshine of her home. Her later life was spent with James Mitchell in Holiday, Fl, and after his passing, she dedicated her life to her family, friends and church, very involved in her Sunday school class at First Assembly of God in New Port Richey.
Hilda had a lifelong unquenchable quest for knowledge, always willing to share it with others. Her greatest role was "The Family Historian & Keeper of our Memories", and now we will carry her memory and love for her in our hearts forever.
