George E. Eckstein passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on March 7, 2018. George was born May 6, 1951 in Brooklyn, NY to the late G. Edward and Clara Eckstein. George grew up with his six siblings in Roosevelt, Long Island. He graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1969 and later received an Associates Degree in Business.
George entered the United States Navy in August of 1970 and served 6 years. During his time in the Navy he received the National Defense Service Medal. George was very proud of his years of service for his country. Upon Honorable discharge from the Navy, George worked as an Autobody Mechanic. In the early 1980's George worked for Amer-Life and Health Insurance as a Salesman. In late 1980's he took a job with the Veteran's Administration in the Accounting Department doing Insurance Investigation. George retired from this position in the mid 2000's.
George married his first wife Susan J. (Bechtel) in November of 1974. They moved to New Port Richey, Florida. Together they welcomed their son Christopher G. Eckstein in August 1975. The family then moved to Odessa, Florida. Tragically, George was widowed in November of 1984, with the passing of Susan.
George married his second wife Susan (Kawa) in 1985. Together they raised their blended family in Odessa, Fl. George and Sue then moved to Lake City, Florida in the late 1990's. Despite divorcing they remained committed life-long companions. Both returned to Port Richey, Florida to enjoy retirement.
George was a champion bowler in High School and U.S. Navy with several perfect 300 games. He was an avid fisherman and loved to play golf. George was a sports fan and especially enjoyed cheering on the local Tampa Bay Area Teams with his son Chris.
George will be remembered for his love and compassion for others, consistently knowing the right thing to do and say and for always being the voice of reason. George was a generous and giving man and will be missed by many loved ones.
George is survived by his Son, Christopher Eckstein of Port Richey, Florida. Life-long Companion Susan (Kawa) Eckstein. Step-son Billy Kawa (Denise) of Hudson, FL, Step-daughters Crista Rodriguez (Carrell) of Tampa, FL and Brandi Carrell of Port Richey, FL., and Five Grandchildren. Sister, Kathleen (Robert) Popielaski of New Port Richey, FL, Sister Patricia (John) Busa of Falcon CO, Brother James Eckstein of Port Richey, FL, Brother Charles Eckstein of New Port Richey, FL, Michael (Leisa) Eckstein of Allendale, MI, and many Nieces and Nephews.
In Lieu of Flowers, donations may be made in George's Memory to the American Cancer Society, the Melanoma Research Foundation, or Charity of Choice.
