Charles was born in December of 1926 in Newark, NJ to Ada and Frank McGovern. On September 26, 1959 he married the love of his life Elizabeth "Marion" Stephen. They raised two sons, Mark and Frank and two daughters, Sharon and Marianne.
He served in the Navy during WWII and was proud of his service aboard the USS Phoenix. After the war Charles followed his passion for art and spent time pursuing a career as a commercial artist. He eventually worked for the US Postal service for over 29 years. Charles was active if the Boy Scouts, and was awarded their highest awards for his 20+ years of service.
Charles was preceded in death by his wife Marion and his son Frank. He is survived by his three children, Mark, Sharon and Marianne, eight grandchildren and one great great grandson.
A viewing will be held at Meadowlawn Memorial Gardens, Tuesday, April 14th from 5 to 8 pm. 4244 Madison St, New Port Richey, FL 34652. Funeral services will be on May 15th at 10am at St. James Catholic Church, 8400 Monarch Dr, Port Richey, FL 34668. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the American Cancer Society.
