Anthony Marchese

Born in Brooklyn, NY on July 9, 1934 to Giacchino and Pietrina (Rizzo) Marchese, Tony attended the ‘School of Hard Knocks’ where he graduated with honors in 1952! He then joined the U.S. Navy proudly serving during the Korean War as a Radio Operator. After his years of service, Tony married the love of his life, Barbara (Hooper) and they recently celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary. In 1962, they moved to Staten Island where they raised their four children, Tony, Steven, Peter and Christine.

For more than forty years, Tony worked as a linotype operator in the printing industry and eventually went into business with a long-time friend setting up their own shop in Manhattan. Forced into an early retirement, he found plenty of ways to stay busy whether it was counseling inmates in Rahway, NJ or quietly helping others through his volunteer work with the Catholic Church. His favorite motto was, ‘Do the right thing!’ and he truly lived by those words.

In 1992, Tony and Barbara moved to White Haven, PA before settling in New Port Richey nearly twenty years ago. While in New Port Richey, Tony has been involved with St. Thomas Aquinas Church as well as the Elks Club. In his spare time, he loved nothing more than spending time with his wife Barbara and his weekly card games with ‘the boys’.

Tony had a terrific sense of humor as well as a gift for making people feel comfortable. For decades, he used the same couple of jokes resisting all offers for new comedic material. Instead he simply chose to find new friends! And while he loved people, there was an introspective side to him that he shared with his close friends and family through his writings. He has left us with a lifetime of stories that will keep him with us forever.

Tony is survived by his wife, Barbara, son Anthony Jr. of Staten Island, son Steven (Paula) of Madison, CT and daughter Christine (Ian) of London, UK as well as eight beautiful grandchildren (Robbie, Dan, Elizabeth, Christopher, Alex, Leo, Luca and Milo) and the best nieces and nephews that an Uncle could ever hope for! Predeceasing Tony were his son Peter as well as his brother Vincent Marchese and sister Phyllis Lazetera.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 3rd between 9:00 - 10:30 a.m. at the Meadowlawn Funeral Home at 4244 Madison Street, New Port Richey, FL 34652 followed by a mass at 11 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas R.C. Church in New Port Richey.
