Luke Madrid Harris

Luke Madrid Harris passed away on Saturday, June 27, 2015 from a vehicle accident near his home in New Plymouth, ID. He was 20 years old. Luke was the older of two children born to parents Brian and Pierrette Madrid-Harris. He was born in Boise, ID on October 11, 1994.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 4 -7 p.m., Thursday, July 2nd with the Vigil service starting at 7 p.m. at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Fruitland. Mass of a Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, July 3rd at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Fruitland with Fr. Calvin Blankinship officiating. Burial will follow at Park View Cemetery, New Plymouth. Arrangements and services are under the direction of Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, New Plymouth. He was a member of the New Plymouth High School graduating class of 2013 where he was Valedictorian. Luke was very proud to be attending his mother’s alma mater the University of Wyoming where he was studying Engineering.

Luke was extremely involved in sports and extra-curricular activities at New Plymouth High School. He was a member of the football, wrestling and track teams all four years of his high school career. His passion for wrestling was very personal to him and he served as an inspirational leader for all of his teammates. His many coaches relied on Luke to set the example of hard work and dedication for each team that he was a member. He was an active member of the New Plymouth FFA Chapter, serving in many officer positions. He received an Idaho FFA Foundation scholarship his senior year based on his success in FFA activities. He also received his State FFA Degree. He enjoyed participating in the Payette County Fair with his swine project each year. Luke always took extra time to make sure the younger, less experienced kids knew what to do when it came time to show and care for their pigs. He was a successful member of 4-H in his younger years. His experiences in 4-H led him to develop his leadership skills which would serve him well during high school years. He was focused on community service. He was always the leader when it came time to organize the National Honor Society Christmas Canned Food Drive, which provided a much needed resource in the New Plymouth Community. Luke knew he was making an impact with this activity and taught his classmates the importance of giving back to the community. Luke had a magnetic personality that made people around him feel at ease and inspired to be better people.

He loved being outdoors, especially camping with his dad and little brother as well as time spent at hunting camp with his buddies. He was a great back yard mechanic and he loved spending time with his many friends.

Luke was a devout Catholic. Luke’s belief in our Lord gave him strength and courage to do the great things in his life. He was a beloved member of Saint Aloysius Catholic Church in New Plymouth and later at Corpus Christi Catholic Community in Fruitland. He was active in many aspects of parish life serving the needs of the community and others. Some of his works of service included: Altar Server, Vacation Bible School Youth Leader, Lector and Eucharistic Minister. He also helped in various ways at the annual events sponsored by the church such as: Harvest Dinner, Christmas Dinner, Lenten Fish Fry, Payette County Fair Ice Cream Booth, the Crab Feed and Community Garden. For his Eagle Scout project, he planted several trees on the property of our new church. He was an active and involved member of the youth group as well. You could always find him playing with the children during coffee hour after Mass on Sunday. If there was something that needed to be done, he was there to lend a hand. Luke was loved by all who were fortunate enough to have known him and he is going to be missed more than words can say.

Luke is survived by his parents Brian and Pierrette and his younger brother Wes of New Plymouth; his grandmothers Ellen Madrid of Broomfield, CO and Margie Smith of Curtis, WA; his aunts Michelle Ruble of Kuna, ID, Charmagne Sealey of Aurora, CO, Shervanne Thomas of Aurora, CO; and seven cousins.
