William Joseph Bordelon (Bill) passed away on Saturday, September 24, 2011 after a difficult battle with Altzheimers and cancer. William was born August 15, 1920 into humble beginnings in Brouillette, LA. He was the eldest of 3 sons to George and Corinne Bordelon. He was a WWII Vet having enlisted in the Navy in March 1942 serving till December 1945. He served in the Pacific aboard the cruiser USS Pensacola and was involved in numerous battles including Coral Sea, invasion of Guadulcanal and liberation of the Philippines. He was honorably discharged in 1945. After returning home he moved to New Orleans where he met his future wife. Elsie Amelia Magri. They were married March 19, 1947 and remained happily married until her death on October 14, 1976. He remarried in 1981 to Sylvia Cosse. Sadly there were differences and the marriage ended in divorce some years later. Sylvia passed away in 2008. Dad was a plumber and 60+ year member of Plumbers & Steamfitters Union Local 60. He worked over 30 years at AS Chevis Plumbing before retiring in 1982. As for his personal life he was very much a homebody. He was a great father and saw to it that he did the best he could for his family and their needs. He was always there to lend a helping hand to neighbors and family. He enjoyed walking the neighborhood and having a friendly chit chat with the neighbors. He especially enjoyed borrowing Miss Alice’s little dog Rosie and taking her for a spin through the neighborhood. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Sanford, Harold and Huey Bordelon and both wives and first born son Ronald Bordelon. He is survived by four children: Cynthia Mayeux (Jimmy), Wayne Bordelon (Elizabeth), Donald Bordelon (Melanie) and Kenneth Bordelon, seven grandchildren: Melanie, Stephanie, Michelle, Christopher, Phillip, Hunter and Dillon and 4 great grandchildren: Caitlyn, Olivia, David and Brayden. The family would like to thank caregivers: Michelle Bordelon, LaRicha Alfred and Melody Davilla whose compassion and devotion were greatly needed and appreciated, the staff of St. Joseph’s Hospice who were there for support and care and prepared us for the tough journey. In lieu of flowers we ask that you make a contribution to a worthwhile charity of your choosing. Family and friends are invited to the visitation Wednesday, September 28th, beginning at 8:00 AM followed with a Funeral Service at 11:00 AM from Jacob Schoen and Son Funeral Home, 3827 Canal Street, interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, New Orleans.
