Wayne E. Edler Sr., a retired Jockey, age 80, of Madisonville, Louisiana passed away on Friday, October 18, 2024. Wayne is survived by his children Wendy E. Benedetto (Randal) and Lance J. Edler, Sr.; grandchildren Blake A. Benedetto (Lacy), Katelyn E. Montalbano (Scott), Lance J. Edler II (Jay), Brock W. Benedetto (Madison), and Stone A. Edler; and great-grandchildren Bronx Montalbano, Memphis Montalbano, Jax Edler, Walker Montalbano, Sophie Benedetto, Reese Benedetto, Briggs Benedetto, Noah Benedetto. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, Betty Jo Ann Edler; parents Rene and Jennie Schiro Edler; his sister Brenda Maxwell; son Wayne E. Edler, Jr. and his grandson Chase A. Edler.
Wayne was a lifetime member of Jockeys' Guild, INC since 1962. He raced at many tracks in many States including Fair Grounds, Jefferson Downs here in Louisiana. He was also named one of the top jockey’s back in his days. Horses were his passion since an early age. He also enjoyed Fishing, Cooking, Fireworks, having coffee with the guys early in the mornings and drinking a beer in the afternoons. He will be truly, truly missed.
A visitation for Wayne will be held Monday, October 28, 2024, from 10:30 AM to 2:30 PM at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans, LA 70124 followed by a Graveside Service in Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum.
