Walter Eric Lundin, III passed away on Thursday, May 18, 2017 at the age of 79. He was preceded in death by his parents, Amelie Barba Lundin and Walter Eric Lundin, Jr. and his first wife Ann Meltzer Lundin. He is survived by his loving wife Dorothy Marvin Lundin, his two sons Lt. Col. Walter Eric Lundin, IV USMC (Ret.) (Veronica) and Michael Lundin (Kelli), daughters Sunny Chevalier (Ricky) and Erica Cronian (Glen). He was a proud grandfather of Elizabeth, Taylor, Alaina, Walter, Michael II, Cole, Jacob and Leigha. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Frederick Meltzer (Laura) and close personal friend and cousin Mary Elaine Lundin Caplinger. Eric Lundin was a lifelong resident of Louisiana. He was born and raised in New Orleans where he attended Mater Dolorosa School, De La Salle High School, Tulane University, and Tulane Law School. While at Tulane University he was a member of the Kappa Alpha Fraternity serving as its President in 1960. After earning his law degree Mr. Lundin was admitted to practice before all state and federal courts, including the U. S. Supreme Court. In 2013, the Louisiana Bar Association recognized his Fiftieth Anniversary in the practice of law. Upon his admission to practice Mr. Lundin joined the Duke and Porterie Law Firm in New Orleans where he engaged in an active real estate practice, serving as President of the Louisiana Land Title Association in 1977 – 78. Mr. Lundin was also heavily involved in representing the Mississippi River Bridge Authority in securing permits for the Crescent City Connection. While at Duke and Porterie he also had a robust practice in governmental relations, representing individuals and entities before assorted public bodies. In the late 1970s he formed his own law firm, which he moved to Plaquemines Parish in 1982. That year Gov. Dave Treen honored him with an appointment as an Administrative Law Judge for the Environmental Control Commission. In Plaquemines, he was instrumental in founding the Mississippi River Bank, which he also served as attorney and Board Member, a position he held until his death. He answered the call of government service in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina serving as the Parish Attorney during the recovery. Mr. Lundin also represented the Plaquemines Parish Assessor’s Office and the Louisiana Assessors’ Association in Baton Rouge in their attempts to protect the local tax base. Mr. Lundin was a fellow of the Louisiana Bar Foundation and he supported several community and civic organizations including the Woodlands Conservancy, Plaquemines Association of Business and Industry, Plaquemines Parish Republican Party, Belle Chasse YMCA, Woodland Presbyterian Church and Young Life New Orleans Westbank Ministry. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Memorial Mass at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 8968 Highway 23 Belle Chasse, LA 70037 on Saturday, May 27, 2017 at 12:00 Noon. Visitation will begin at 9:00AM until service time. A private interment will follow at a later date.
