Virginia Kevin Murray, PhD., 67, passed away Thursday, February 5th, 2015. She was born October 18th, 1947 in Jacksonville, Florida to Julian Rollins (Dutch) Murray and Catherine Virginia Horgan Murray. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Robert Shannon Murray and John Tyler Murray II. Virginia’s partner, Joan Ruth Roberts, MD, also preceded her in death.
Virginia is survived by sisters, Jean P. Murray Offan, Margaret Murray Mitchell and brothers, C. Joseph Murray, Michael W. Murray, William H. Murray, Julian Rollins Murray, Jr., Lewis V. Murray, Stephen B. Murray and Patrick M. Murray. She is further survived by 24 nieces and nephews.
Virginia attended Ridgewood Prepatory School, St. Pius X Grammar School, University of New Orleans, and University of Georgia, attaining a Masters and PhD to be a Sociologist. She was also a member of Vista Volunteer, and Krewe of Dorian.
Memorial Gathering will be Saturday February 28th, 2015 from 10:00 am until 11:00 am at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home in New Orleans. A reception will follow at 11:00 am at the funeral home. Interment will be at a later date.
