

Virginia “Gina” Andersen Cullen, age 85, born in New Orleans, Louisiana. Entered into God’s Kingdom on Easter Sunday, April 5, 2015. Daughter of the late John and Betty Barcelona. Sister of the late Francis B. Speer and Josephine B. Kenan. Preceded in death by her husbands, Hampton Aubrey Andersen, Sr. and James H. Cullen, both served during WWII with the U.S. Marine Corps. Devoted mother to Hampton Aubrey Andersen, Jr. (Candace), Sandra A. Bonck (Raymond), Christopher A. Andersen (Kim), David J. Andersen (Jennifer), Barbara A. Lane (Marvin), and Robert M. Andersen. Step mother of Jackie Conroy (Tom). Loving grandmother to Tiffany Michaud, Cynthia Andersen, Jennifer Melancon, Trent Andersen, Kevin Lane, Kerry Andersen, Kristy Rascoe, Ryan Lane, Courtney Boe, Justine Andersen, Ethan Andersen, Dallas Andersen and 13 great-grandchildren.
Virginia was named the “2013 Volunteer Angel of the Year” by the Paul E. Boyd Unit 579 of the Marine Corps League Auxiliary. She was a lifetime member of the Auxiliary and held several club offices, including president, judge advocate, and chaplain. Virginia was an active volunteer for all events, including the weekly bingo and annual Toys for Tots. She is also the current treasurer of the Ladies’ Auxiliary Military Order of the Purple Heart, as well as past patriotic instructor and past secretary. She was the VAVS chairwoman. Virginia also volunteered for many years at the VA Hospital of New Orleans. She was a member of the Les Chapeau Rouge Red Hat Society. Virginia has been an avid Saints fan since 1967. Through the good and bad, she was their biggest fan.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at LAKE LAWN METAIRIE FUNERAL HOME, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. (in Metairie Cemetery) on Friday, April 10, 2015 at 11:00 AM. Visitation will begin at 8:30 AM. Interment will follow in Restlawn Cemetery.
